Spurs, United vie for Kameni
A number of clubs, including Manchester United, are in the running to sign Cameroon goalkeeper Carlos Kameni if he leaves Espanyol.
The player's representative Patrick Mboma confirmed Kameni was thinking about a potential move.
"He's considering a change and there are four teams interested: Atletico Madrid, Valencia, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United," Mboma was quoted as saying in Spanish media.
Kameni, 24, became the youngest footballer ever to win an Olympic gold medal in 2000, when he was just 16.
Following a frustrating spell at French side Le Havre AC he moved to Espanyol in 2004.
He has impressed many observers in his time at the club, with the highlight winning the Copa Del Rey in 2006.

Toure family: one out, one in
Barcelona 1 Schalke 0 (aggregate: 2-0)
Kolo Toure had a night to forget on Tuesday, giving away a crucial penalty, but the Arsenal defender's brother Yaya gave the family reason to celebrate.
Yaya's goal sent Barcelona on the way to a Champions League semi-final with Manchester United, but the Spanish side's performance will not scare Sir Alex Ferguson.
Barcelona's defence often showed hesitancy and a lack of positional awareness. Carles Puyol was also booked, so he will miss the semi-final first leg.
Off-field unrest was caused by high-ranking club official Xavier Sala Martin claiming Barcelona are using injuries as an excuse to drop players who have been guilty of indiscipline.
Ronaldinho and Deco have been absent in recent weeks. Schalke made a purposeful start.
Halil Altintop and Jermaine Johnson came close before Kevin Kuranyi spurned an excellent 21st-minute chance.
Barcelona then started finding fluency in their passing. Bojan, dangerous throughout, dashed down the right and crossed low into the Schalke area, where Marcelo Bordon attempted to clear.
Bordonwatched his deflection hit the bar and loop back out to the edge of the six-yard box.
Toure was well placed to tuck in.
Barcelona took the attack to Schalke in the second half, with Thierry Henry missing a sitter from 10 yards.
Henry and Samuel Eto'o later combined to set up Andres Iniesta, whose 20-yard shot was saved well by Manuel Neuer. Barcelona did not rue those misses, though.

Angry Eto’o spills the Barca beans
Samuel Eto’o made the transformation from substitute to whistle-blower last night with an astonishing attack on Frank Rijkaard, the Barcelona coach, and the accusation that the European champions are a divided team. With only a week to go before the next round of Champions League matches, the internecine warfare will be music to the ears of Liverpool supporters.
The Cameroon striker was incensed after Rijkaard and Ronaldinho made comments about him after Sunday’s 2-0 win over Racing Santander at the Nou Camp. Rijkaard claimed that Eto’o had “refused” to take the field with seven minutes left, prompting Ronaldinho to suggest that his co-star should think more about the team than himself.
However, as Eto’o launched his counter-assault, the waters were further muddied when Joan Laporta, the Barcelona president, said the player had merely been concerned about a knee injury and that “when he speaks to Frank it will all be cleared up”. That is unlikely to be the case given the very personal nature of Eto’o’s public remarks. As well as questioning Rijkaard’s integrity, the suggestion that the team is divided into two factions will cause concern among the Barça hierarchy.
“Mr Rijkaard is the one who said what he said,” Eto’o said. “He is the one who has to speak to you. It’s a bad person who gives a press conference to say that Eto’o has refused to play. If anybody has balls they should tell it to me face to face.”
Warming to his hatchet job, Eto’o then rounded on the squad. “At Barcelona there are two sides, two groups,” he said. “One is the one of the president and the other related to another person. The others are those that are worried.” That other “person” is Sandro Rosell, the former vice-president, who as the head of Nike’s South American division helped to lure Ronaldinho to Catalonia.
“When he was my boss,” Eto’o said, reportedly of Rosell, “he never said hello and now he comes from behind to attack me. That really is a bad person.” Ronaldinho, too, did not escape the fury of a striker scorned. “If a teammate says that you must think of the team, it’s up to him to think of the team,” he said. “Personally I always think first about the group and then money.”
Eto’o has scored 68 goals for Barcelona since arriving from Mallorca in 2004 and has been voted Africa’s top player for the past three years. He was also third in the Fifa world player award of 2005.
He has not been a stranger to controversy, however, and was fined €12,000 (about £8,000) in May, 2005 for insulting Real Madrid, his former club, during Barcelona’s title celebrations. His strength of character was also evident when he threatened to walk off the field during Barcelona’s game away to Real Zaragoza after being racially taunted by home supporters. It was no surprise that Laporta was happy to back Eto’o, given the indelible links between Rosell and his galácticos. “His knee needs time to warm up and he didn’t have enough time,” Laporta said. “He preferred to be careful. He didn’t do anything inappropriate or wrong.”
With Barcelona still leading La Liga, Laporta might argue that talk of civil war is overstating the case, but Eto’o was happy to pursue the military analogy. “This is not my war, but this is a war,” he said. “I’m in the middle of a war between two people and I’m the one who is taking all the punishment. But I will return to play.”
Eto’o is on the comeback trail from a knee injury picked up in Barcelona’s Champions League match away to Werder Bremen in September. The chances of him making his European comeback against Liverpool a week today would now seem to be very slim.
Paper talk
All Spanish eyes will be on Barcelona’s training session this morning when Samuel Eto’o faces his team-mates for the first time after yesterday’s outburst. Frank Rijkaard, the manager, will meet Txiki Begiristain, the sporting director, to discuss disciplinary action. The drama was played out in the Spanish papers with Real Madrid-supporting titles Marca and AS revelling in the situation. The Barcelona-supporting Sport had some serious back-tracking to do after a headline yesterday read: “There is no problem with Eto’o”.

Bhoys agree Doumbe deal
Skysports.com can reveal Celtic have agreed a deal to sign Cameroon defender Jean-Joel Perrier-Doumbe.
Doumbe has agreed a six-month deal with the option of a further two years after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.
The full-back enjoyed a trial at Parkhead earlier this month as he looked to find a move away from Rennes.
Bolton also had the powerful defender on trial last week as they considered a move for him, but Celtic have won the race for his signature.
The player's agent Willie McKay confirmed Doumbe cannot wait to get his Celtic career up and running.
"Doumbe has signed a six-month deal with the option for a further two years," McKay told skysports.com.
"He enjoyed his trial here earlier in the month and he impressed Gordon Strachan.
"He is looking forward to the opportunity of playing for Celtic and he cannot wait to get started.
"He was not playing at Rennes because of injury, but now he is back and raring to go.
"He has played in two World Cups and he can play anywhere across the back.
"He is looking forward to playing in Scotland and in the Champions League."
Meanwhile, Porto are believed to have made an offer for Rennes midfielder Jimmy Briand.
Briand is keen for more first-team opportunities after struggling for chances at the Stade de la Route-de-Lorient.

Eto'o back in training at Barca
Cameroon international striker Samuel Eto'o has returned to training for the first time since September. Last season's La Liga top scorer has not played since injuring his knee on 27 September, and although Barcelona lead the Spanish top-flight and are through to the UEFA Champions League knockout phase, they have dearly missed his goals.
Eto'o trained alone from mid-January but has now joined his team-mates and is hoping to make his first team comeback on 11 February against Racing Santander. Argentine starlet Lionel Messi could also be back for the same game as he is on the mend following a foot injury suffered in November.
Barcelona's results have been inconsistent without the pair, although with Real Madrid short of form and surprise-package Sevilla starting to stumble, Barca have managed to hold onto top spot.
Nonetheless, with a vital UEFA Champions League second tie against the notoriously tough-to-break-down Liverpool on the horizon, the return of the pair is a welcome boost for Dutch coach Frank Rijkaard.

Haan calls on Wome to end 'exile'
Cameroon coach Arie Haan has included Pierre Wome in his squad for a friendly next month despite the defender's self-imposed international ban.
The four-time African champions will play Togo in Lome on 7 February in preparation for their Group 5 2008 African Nations Cup qualifier against Liberia in Yaounde at the end of March.
It is the second time the Dutch coach has attempted to bring the Werder Bremen defender back into the international fold.
Wome turned down the previous invitation saying he wanted to talk with the Dutch coach to consider the call up.
'Vilified by fans'
Wome refused to play for the national team after he was vilified by the Cameroonian fans for missing a penalty against Egypt in October 2005 which cost Cameroon a place at the 2006 World Cup.
His absence at the 2006 Nations Cup in Egypt was lamented by Cameroon legend Roger Milla, who praised Wome for scoring the penalty which earned the country Olympic Gold in 2000.
Although the squad remains almost unchanged from the one which defeated Equatorial Guinea 3-0 in Yaounde in October, there are some notable absentees.
Bill Tchato, Albert Ze Meyong, Salmon Olembe and Guy Feutchine, who were members of the squad for that match have not been included.
Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o Fils is probably left out so that he could fully recover from his current injury.

Eto'o names comeback date
Barcelona have finally put a date on when they hope Samuel Eto'o will be back in action.
The home match against Racing Santander on 11 February has been pencilled in for his reappearance. The Cameroon international and three-time African Player of the Year tore the meniscus in his right knee during the 1-1 draw away at Werder Bremen in the Champions League on 27 September and has been out of action since.
"In principal, Samuel will start to train with the rest of the team either Thursday or Friday this week," said a spokesman for the Spanish league leaders and the current European champions.
"At the moment he's still mainly working on his own under the guidance of the club's physical trainer.
"He's getting stronger every day and he is more confident but he's still lacking a little muscle around the knee, but the last word always remains that of club coach Frank Rijkaard."
Eto'o said earlier this month he hoped to be playing by the end of January but Barcelona officials confirmed that they were exercising caution with his come back even though he potentially could play before 11 February.
His return is eagerly anticipated by Barca's fans ahead of their team's Champions League last 16 clash with English Premiership side Liverpool on 21 February 21.
Many of the Catalan club's supporters believe that their team has lost a little of its style and firepower in his absence.

Eto'o return delayed, again
Barcelona's Cameroonian forward Samuel Eto'o will have to wait a little longer before making his long-awaited return for the Spanish champions.
Last week, the 25-year-old pinpointed this weekend's game at Espanyol as the chance to 'put on the Barca jersey again'.
Yet Barca club doctor Ramon Cugat has stressed that Eto'o, who suffered a serious knee injury in September, will only start training on Monday 15 January.
"We have to hold him back a little because he's keen to get back to scoring goals, but we decided that from Monday he can train with the rest of the group," said Cugat.
Eto'o injured his right knee in September and after surgery, early reports suggested he would not return to football until February.
Barcelona, the reigning European champions, currently trail La Liga leaders Seville by two points but have a game in hand.

Eto'o and Barca peers sweep FIFPro awards
Cameroon international Samuel Eto'o, top scorer in Spain with 26 goals last season, has won the FIFPro Merit award for his commitment to Africa and African football and for his stance against racism in football. His colleagues at Spanish and European champions Barcelona, Ronaldinho and Argentine prodigy Lionel Messi completed the Barca sweep of the annual awards announced by the professional players union FIFPro on Monday.
Ronaldinho was named FIFPro World Player of the Year for the second time in succession following a vote by 43,000 professionals worldwide, his 19-year-old team mate Messi was chosen as the Young Player of the Year and Eto'o was given the FIFPro Merit award.
Ronaldinho played a key role in steering Barcelona to a second successive league title and victory in the Champions League but had a disappointing World Cup with Brazil.
Barcelona were given the Players for Peace award for their decision to use their shirt advertising space to promote the work of the United Nations children's agency UNICEF.

Pierre Webo targets English Premiership
Osasuna striker Pierre Webo has issued a come-and-get-me plea to The Premiership as he seeks to engineer a move to England.
The Cameroon international is eager to be reunited with his cousin, Chelsea's Geremi, as he considers a move away from Spain and La Liga.
Webo has told skysports.com that there are clubs tentatively interested in his services and that it is a dream of his to ply his trade in the English top flight.
“Playing in England would definitely be the biggest challenge for me," Webo told skysports.com.
“Yes, I really dream to play in the same league as my cousin Geremi.
“There are big clubs in Spain and England, but I want to experience The Premiership.
“I can’t say I have had concrete contact with English clubs, but some came to watch me play with Osasuna and I don’t know if they are interested.”
While Webo concedes his heart lies in England, he is looking forward to the rest of the season with an Osasuna side that enjoyed a fine campaign last time out.
In claiming a UEFA Champions League spot, albeit one they relinquished to Hamburg at the qualifying stage, Osasuna exceeded all expectations.
Webo is hopeful that this season's exploits can match those of last term, confident that Osasuna are equipped for another successful campaign.
“Osasuna’s season objective is to qualify for another European Cup," said Webo.
“First we have to obtain the symbolic 45 points, then our staff could announce new objectives.
“It is hard to have missed the Champions League, but the Uefa Cup is not too bad.
“Our team has shown a lot of

Pompey secure work permit for Cameroon teenager
Portsmouth have received a work permit for Cameroon teenager Berlin Ndebe-Nlome.
The 18-year-old impressed Pompey boss Harry Redknapp during a pre-season trial and was offered a contract at Fratton Park.
Terms were agreed, but the Premiership club were awaiting the necessary paperwork to finalise the deal.
Ndebe-Nlome has now been granted a work permit and Redknapp plans to send the striker out on loan to build up his experience.
"Berlin's got his work permit, so he's here now and we're pleased to have him here," Redknapp told the club's official website.
"He's a young boy, just 18. We've had him on trial, took him for nothing and are giving him an opportunity.
"He's strong and he has got something. I think if he works hard at his game then he could be okay.
"I'd like to get him out on loan somewhere. He's strong enough, even though he's only 18, to play league football."

Haan to go on the hunt for new talent
Cameroon's Dutch coach Arie Haan says he wants to strengthen his squad by scouring Europe and the local league for new players.
Haan has lead the Indomitable Lions to victories in both their Group Five games in the qualifying campaign for the 2008 African Cup of Nations finals.
Despite the 3-0 wins over both Equatorial Guinea and Rwanda in the qualifiers Haan says he is still looking for new players.
"The plan is to find more players because I'm sure there are so many players in Europe and here in Cameroon," he told BBC Sport.
"We are trying to renovate the team.
"I'm satisfied with what I have seen but you are always looking for players and always looking to be better, so you have to look around.
"You can never say my team is ready, it's always in movement.
"It can always improve and some players will come in and others will fall away as you get better.
"You have to follow everything the championships here in Cameroon and especially the Olympic squad as there you the youngest players who are already good."

 Eto'o ruled out for months
Samuel Eto'o faces two to three months on the sidelines after the FC Barcelona striker was carried off in the 65th minute of Wednesday's UEFA Champions League game against Werder Bremen with a knee injury.
'Tear to the meniscus'
Eto'o twisted his right knee and tests have already revealed that he has torn the cartilage. Barça club doctor Ricard Pruna said: "He has suffered a tear to the outside of the meniscus in his right knee and early indications point to a recovery period of between two and three months."
Hot streak over
European champions Barcelona were trailing to a Carles Puyol own goal at the time of Eto'o's withdrawal but rallied to equalise through Lionel Messi in the 89th minute of the Group A tie. The 25-year-old Cameroon international, who has started the season with four goals in four Primera División games – plus one against PFC Levski Sofia on Matchday 1 – is unlikely to be fit before the group stage concludes on 5/6 December

Atletico fined for Webo abuse
Atletico Madrid have been fined for the racist behaviour of their fans towards Osasuna's Cameroonian striker Pierre Webo.
The Spanish Football Federation, which did not disclose the amount of the fine, also warned Atletico that the Vicente Calderon Stadium would be closed if it happened again.
The incident occurred during Saturday's highly-charged league 1-0 win over Osasuna, which saw four players of the visiting team being sent off.
Atletico supporters made monkey noises at Webo during the first half of the game.
Referee Vicente Lizondo Cortes also reported that one of his assistants was hit by two batteries thrown from the crowd.
Other projectiles were hurled onto the field.
Atletico has been fined in the past for racist taunting of players, including Real Madrid's Brazil left back Roberto Carlos, Espanyol's Cameroon goalkeeper Carlos Kameni and Mali midfielder Mohamed Sissoko, then of Valencia.
Last week, Real Madrid was also fined an undisclosed amount and warned its home stadium could be closed.
Supporters showered the field with projectiles, hitting an assistant referee, during its Spanish Cup match against Real Betis.

Eto'o draws blank in comeback match
Sunday's action from Spain was full of surprises as Barcelona and Sevilla could only draw, while Read Madrid fell to the first defeat in their history against Levante.
Barcelona were repeatedly frustrated by a resilient Osasuna side, as away day blues saw them return to Camp Nou with only a 0-0 stalemate for their efforts.
In the final five minutes Samuel Eto'o came on to make his return after a long-term absence through injury but the Cameroon international, like his team-mates, drew a blank.
Real Madrid slumped to a 1-0 home defeat to Levante that is sure to increase the pressure on underfire coach Fabio Capello.
In what was another disappointing display from the capital club, Real fell to defeat courtesy of Salva's 12th minute penalty on his debut.
In the second period they briefly rallied in hitting the bar through Miguel Angel Nieto and having what looked to be a clear penalty denied when Ruud van Nistelrooy was brought down in the box, but having left the field to a chorus of boos, the Madrid faithful made clear their thoughts.
Sevilla too were made to rue missed opportunities when they could only draw 0-0 with strugglers Real Sociedad.
The surprise title challengers were dominant throughout but were denied on numerous occasions by the Basque battlers.
Ezequiel Gavay's 7th minute strike was enough to secure Racing Santander a 1-0 win over Getafe, while Celta Vigo and Gimnastic De Terragona shared the spoils after a 1-1 stalemate.
Borja Oubina's effort gave the home side the lead but Gimnastic escaped with a point thanks to Javier Portillo's goal 13 minutes from time.
Recreativo enjoyed an impressive 2-1 victory over Villarreal which saw Sinama-Pongolle score the crucial second.
Juanme's 13th minute opener was added to by Sinama-Pongolle a minute after the break, with Jon Dahl Tomasson's goal for Villarreal proving to be nothing more than a consolation.
Real Betis were away day winners at Athletic Bilbao as they returned from their travels with a 2-1 win.
Robert De Pinho De Souza (18) and Fabrice Pancrate (76) put Betis in cruise control before Ismael Urzaiz's injury time penalty made for an anxious final stage.

Lauren beams over Pompey move
Portsmouth's latest capture Lauren has talked to Sky Sports about his move.
The former Arsenal man completed his switch to the South Coast on Thursday and he admitted he was delighted.
Lauren admitted the chance to work with Harry Redknapp was a huge draw and his reason to reject other offers, two of which are understood to have come from West Ham and Newcastle.
"I am very excited because it is a new challenge for me and I am looking forward to it," he told Sky Sports News.
"Yes, but first of all I was convinced by the coach. I have also got Sol Campbell and Kanu, in the changing room which is very good."
Glen Johnson is already at the club, but Lauren insists that is not a major problem - as may not play at right-back.
"It is a big challenge for both of us and will improve the team," he continued.
"Whatever, I will happily play in any position and I am just waiting for the first game and if it is Saturday I will be very happy.
"I am looking forward to my first competitive game and I will do my best.
"I am 100 per cent fit and I just need a couple of games."
Lauren admits that it was a wrench to leave Emirates Stadium, but he leaves Arsenal with no regrets.
"I am have been there for six unbelievable years, it is has been fantastic," he said.
"I am very happy and the fans have been fantastic and I will keep them in my heart forever.
"I can now concentrate on my career and look forward.
"I would like to get into Europe [with Portsmouth], it is a good squad with many good players and we can keep winning games."

Eto'o compared to Brazilian super-hero
In Rio the supporters of Flamengo have a chant in praise of their centre forward. The Maracana reverberates to the sound of 'Obina is better than Eto'o.'  It has become so popular that you can buy a t-shirt with the slogan emblazoned on the front.
In a way, the chant is in fact complementing Samuel Eto'o. It is acknowledging the importance of the Barcelona number nine. An African player has become a reference point for fans in South America. This, of course, is a consequence of the global market in footballers, which congregates the outstanding talents in the game in a handful of high profile European clubs. If Obina really wants to show that he is better than Eto'o, then there is only one course of action ahead of him - just as Eto'o has done, he must join a European giant and make an impact in the Champions League.
What he does there will be visible to the entire world. It was not always thus. Until comparatively recently it was possible to stay local and still be a great player.
Bar a couple of years' missionary work in the USA, Pelé played his entire career with Santos, who despite their glorious tradition are a small city club.
It was the World Cups of 1958 and 1970 that did most to make his global reputation. But what of those great players who were not fortunate enough to play in a World Cup? Their profile all over the planet may not be as high, but they should still be remembered. To the best of my knowledge, there are no terrace songs in South America about George Best, nor European chants about Alberto Spencer.
But nobody can doubt that, in their different ways, these were truly great players. Spencer, who died on Friday at the age of 68, was born in Ecuador, and spent most of his career in Uruguay. He played international football for both countries, but is most remembered for his feats at club level.
He is the top scorer in the history of the Copa Libertadores, South America's equivalent of the Champions League. He was an out and out goalscorer, a deadly finisher with either foot whose prodigious leap made him especially lethal in the air. And he came up strong on the big occasions.
His Uruguayan club Penarol won the Libertadores in 1960, 1961 and 1966. Each time Spencer scored decisive goals in the final. In all he scored 54 goals in the 87 Libertadores games he played. It is a record that may never be beaten. Nowadays a player with that kind of talent would quickly find himself on his way to Europe.
So would the likes of Rocha, Abberdie and Joya, his Peñarol team-mates who, as Spencer was always quick to acknowledge, laid on so many goals for him. Obina's chance to make a dent in Spencer's record comes next year. Flamengo have qualified for the 2007 Copa Libertadores. But if he shows a fraction of the ability of the great Ecuadorian he is unlikely to be around for the 2008 version.
He will be in Europe, trying to live up to the comparison with Eto'o.

Eto'o in race for award
Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o is the only African player to make the 55-man shortlist for honours at the World XI awards organised by FIFPro.
FIFPro, the international players' union, announced the list from a poll taken from its 43,000 members at a congress in Brazil.
Eto'o, who plays for the Spanish side Barcelona, is in contention to make the final eleven, which will be announced in Athens on 6 November.
The striker, who was voted third in Fifa's World player of the year award for 2005, has been Africa's top player for each of the last three seasons.
He has hit 68 goals in 101 games for Barcelona and scored 26 times last season to finish the top scorer in Spain.

Buba hat-trick gives Beira Mar 3-3 draw with Sporting
Cameroon defender Yohanna Buba struck a hat-trick to give promoted Beira Mar a 3-3 home draw with Sporting in the Portuguese Premier League, last Friday.
Sporting lead the league with 17 points from eight matches.
Champions Porto, a point behind, can regain top spot when they hosts rivals Benfica on Saturday.
Struggling Beira Mar took an early lead when Buba headed in a a free-kick from the right by Rui Lima after 14 minutes.
Sporting equalised through Brazilian striker Alecsandro after 56 minutes and went ahead nine minutes from time when substitute Yannick scored from inside the box.
Buba headed home a rebound in the 86th minute but Sporting looked like they had snatched a win when Brazilian striker Liedson tapped in a cross from the right on the stroke of regulation time. However, Buba popped up to complete his hat-trick in stoppage time in a goalmouth scramble.

Cameroonian player foils Singapore bribery bid
An attempt to buy an S-League result has been foiled after a bribe was rejected by a Sporting Afrique player.
According to the Singapore club's chairman Collin Chee, Cameroonian midfielder Jacques Ngo'o Evrard rejected an offer of US$5,060 when approached by two men hours before the club's recent match against Gombak United.
"This proves one thing, there are good, honest players, and players who will come clean and just want to play football," Chee said.
Evrard had been offered the bribe to pull out of the match and if Gombak beat the third-from-bottom hosts.
The midfielder did play in the match but Gombak won all the same, 4-2.
Chee said his player had done all that could be expected.
"I am very happy with him. My player rejected the bribe and immediately told his coach. That is all he could do.
"We immediately reported the incident to the S-League and this is now being investigated."
South East Asia is no stranger to match-fixing.
In August, former Malaysia national coach Chow Kwai Lam was charged with attempting to bribe one of his former players as then-head coach of S-League side Paya Lebar Punggol to throw a match in 2005. He contests the charges.
That same month, Vietnamese police charged a former national team player with match fixing at last year's Southeast Asian Games.
Truong Tan Hai was accused of paying seven players US $31,230 to ensure Vietnam beat Myanmar 1-0 in a SEA Games group match.
Hai now faces two charges of match-fixing after he was arrested in March this year for accepting bribes during the 2000-2001 V-League title, won by Song Lam-Nghe An.
Vietnam launched a "clean hands" campaign in September last year, which led to the prosecution of more than 30 players and referees.
